A campaign can look great and still fail if messages are rejected or land in spam. Deliverability depends on domain authentication, sender reputation, list quality, and how recipients react.

SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

SPF lists servers allowed to send for your domain. DKIM signs messages cryptographically. DMARC tells receivers what to do when checks fail and can provide reports.

Do not jump to a strict DMARC policy before inventorying every legitimate sender.

Bulk sender requirements

Gmail and Yahoo publish requirements for bulk senders, including authentication and one-click unsubscribe for promotional mail. Complaint rates should stay well below 0.3%; aiming under 0.1% is healthier.

Easy unsubscribe protects reputation

Hiding the unsubscribe link increases spam complaints. One-click unsubscribe plus a visible link should work without forcing a login maze.

A large list is not always a healthy list

Prioritize consent, bounce handling, inactive-contact review, segmentation, and never buying dubious lists.

Separate promotional and transactional mail

Order confirmations should not share the same reputation risk as mass promotions. Subdomains or separate streams help.

Monitor more than opens

Watch delivery, bounces, complaints, unique clicks, unsubscribes, site conversions, and authentication reports.
